Governor issues statement on the death of NAACP leader Dr. Harold Bailey
SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement today on the passing of NAACP leader Dr. Harold Bailey.
Under Dr. Bailey’s leadership, the Albuquerque NAACP endorsed the Elizabeth Whitefield End of Life Option Act in 2020, championing expanded healthcare options and addressing disparities in education and access.
Dr. Bailey’s belief in empowering communities, particularly communities of color, in making informed decisions about their values and end-of-life care was instrumental in the Act’s eventual passage, which I was honored to sign into law in 2021. I thank him for his advocacy and commitment to ensuring dignity and choice for all.
His legacy will continue to inspire us. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were impacted by his work.
