Green Card Lottery is Now Accepting Applications for 2013
/EINPresswire.com/ The Green Card Lottery is an annual event and the registration for the 2013 lottery has been announced. The dates are as follows: beginning at noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT -4), Tuesday, October 4, 2011, and ending at noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT -5), Saturday, November 5, 2011.
The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, as it is known, is a congressionally mandated program, administered annually by the Department of State and is conducted under the US Law United States law, specifically Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The law allows for visas to be made available to foreign nationals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. For fiscal year 2013, 50,000 diversity visas will be available.
Nationals of countries who have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States over the past five years are not eligible to apply for the Diversity Visa program. For DV-2013, individuals from the following countries are NOT eligible to apply because the countries sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years:
BANGLADESH, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PERU, PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.
Foreign nationals born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan are eligible.
In addition, natives of South Sudan and Poland are now eligible for selection, and note that Bangladesh natives are now ineligible.
In 2010, at least 19.6 million people applied for visas through the Diversity Visa Program. Avoid website delays by not waiting until the last minute to register. And it is important to note that NO applications will be accepted after noon, EST, on November 5, 2011.
