PotashCorp Cheers On KidSport with $50,000 Donation
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today announced a $50,000 donation to KidSport – a charitable non-profit organization that helps children of low-income families participate in community sport programs. Rhonda Speiss, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy, announced the company’s contribution to staff, supporters and volunteers at the organization’s annual fundraising breakfast.
“At PotashCorp, we believe that no kid should be sidelined when it comes to participating in organized sport,” said Speiss. “While it’s true that leadership, discipline and hard work are taught in classrooms, it’s on the field of play where kids really learn these values by putting them into practice.”
According to organizers, involvement in organized sport equips participating kids with self-confidence and feelings of inclusion, self-worth and accomplishment – setting the stage for success and healthy lifestyle choices later on.
“Growing strong communities starts with giving kids the confidence and skills to be leaders and champions both on and off the field,” explained Speiss. “We hope that our contribution will help KidSport staff and volunteers reach even more families and deserving kids across Saskatoon.”
To date, KidSport in Saskatchewan has raised over $4.6 million and helped more than 68,263 kids participate in community sport programs. It is estimated that only half of the province’s 190,000 school-aged children regularly participate in meaningful sport activity. In most cases, social and economic barriers prevent these young people from getting involved in sport and receiving its significant benefits.
Headquartered in Saskatoon, PotashCorp is the world’s largest fertilizer company by capacity, producing the three primary crop nutrients – potash, phosphate and nitrogen. With five potash operations in Saskatchewan, and one in New Brunswick, it is responsible for about 20 percent of global capacity and is the world’s leading potash producer. Its operations and business interests span seven countries, making PotashCorp an international enterprise and a key player in meeting the growing challenge of feeding the world.
