Metro Cash 'n Carry Namibia Goes Solar
ONDANGWA AND OSHAKATI, NAMIBIA, October 28, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As of this month, the Metro Cash & Carry stores in Ondangwa and Oshakati have something extra going for them in addition to quality products and outstanding service – the two stores are the first Metro Cash 'n Carry stores in Namibia to install large-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. What’s more, the systems were installed completely free-of-charge.
Taking advantage of a unique rent-to-own offering from Sedgeley Solar Energy (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd, the two Metro Cash 'n Carry stores have respectively seen their roofs transformed into 51kW and 100kW power plants capable of replacing over half of each site’s grid consumption with clean energy from the sun. The systems include arrays of 320W solar panels from Canadian Solar Inc. connected to Blueplanet 50.0 inverters from KACO New Energy in Germany.
Sefalana Cash & Carry (Namibia) managing director, Bryan Davis, explained that the group did not have to pay a cent for the solar equipment, designs or installations. Instead, they will only pay for the clean power generated from their new solar systems, at rates significantly below what they previously paid for power from the grid.
Under its proprietary Solar-SaverTM contracts, Sedgeley Energy finances customized solar PV systems on its own balance sheet and then shares the resultant electricity cost savings with clients. This means that enterprises who would not otherwise have chosen to spend the substantial capital required to install systems can now “go green” and cut their ongoing electricity bills - from day one - with no capital outlay.
Speaking at the launch of the two systems, Sedgeley Energy director, Owen Sivertsen, explained that Namibia is perfectly placed to adopt roof-top solar PV on a large scale given that its solar irradiation levels are some of the best on the planet.
