Former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, speaking on Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network, has claimed that God “raised up” Donald Trump over the other candidates to become the GOP nominee. Rabbi Jack Moline, president of Interfaith Alliance, issued the following response:

“No Congresswoman, God does not vote in the GOP primary. It should go without saying that no one in our political system should claim to speak for God.

“Faith traditions are not monolithic, and people of faith interpret religious teachings differently when it comes to politics. To claim that God supports Donald Trump both devalues faith and disrespects our constitutional system of government.”
