Second anniversary of Sumburgh helicopter crash – Oil & Gas UK response
Robert Paterson, health & safety director at Oil & Gas UK said: “Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those lost in the helicopter crash off Shetland two years ago.
“We had hoped that the Air Accident Investigation Branch report into the accident would have been published by now as we are keenly awaiting its findings.
“Since that tragedy a number of measures have been implemented to further improve helicopter safety and post-crash survivability, such as the introduction of a new Emergency Breathing System and a revised approach to the allocation of helicopter seating. We are also aware of the considerable work that has been undertaken by the Civil Aviation Authority in helping to accelerate improvements in other areas including flight crew training, helicopter design and production and ongoing maintenance.
“The sector will continue to do all it can to ensure the safety of our offshore workforce. Everyone is entitled to get to and from their workplace safely.”
