From cautious snow bunnies who prefer backyard sledding over
black-diamond slopes, to skiers and snowboarders who are looking for a
refreshing change of pace, tubing is a winter activity everyone can enjoy. For
the last several seasons, longstanding partners Coca-Cola and Intrawest have teamed
up to bring a unique snow tubing experience to some of North America's top ski resorts.
Coca-Cola sponsors tubing hills at Winter Park in
Colorado, Stratton Mountain in Vermont, Snowshoe in West Virginia, Whistler Blackcomb
in British Columbia, and Mont Tremblant in Quebec.
“Our partnership with Intrawest dates back over
20 years and is about much more than connecting with just skiers,” said Mary Beth
Carpenter, West region asset manager for Coca-Cola. “It's about
connecting with families and friends making memories together. We want our
brands to be part of those memories.”
At Winter Park,
which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2015, the Coca-Cola
Tubing area features four banked lanes of varying speeds, giving visitors the option of starting with a mellow trip down the hill before working their way up
to a faster descent. A covered “magic carpet” lift brings guests quickly
back to the top for the maximum amount of laps, and the Hill House warming hut
provides a comfortable space to relax with an indoor/outdoor fireplace, gourmet
hot chocolate and other amenities. On weekends, visitors can tube under the
lights several hours after the slopes close.
Coca-Cola and Intrawest have tubing activations in several top ski resorts in North America, including Winter Park.
Steve Hurlbert, director
of PR and communications at Winter Park Resort, said Coca-Cola
Tubing is a great way for people who don’t ski or snowboard to enjoy a fun, exhilarating
mountain experience. “Destination guests in particular love it because it’s an
additional activity they can experience during their stay that is conveniently
located right at the base of the mountain,” he added.
Carpenter said Coca-Cola Tubing is accessible
to everyone. “You don't need to invest in equipment or lessons to join the fun,”
she added. “Tubing is for anyone from my two-year-old toddler to my 70-year-old
mom.”
At Stratton Mountain’s Sun Bowl, Coca-Cola
Tube Park features four lanes of lift-serviced snow tubing, a warming hut with
light refreshments and a fire pit.
“This year we added an Ice Castle, dogsledding,
live music and a tasty lineup of food at drink to the mix, joining Nordic
skiing and snowshoeing,” said Myra Foster, director
of marketing and communications at Stratton Mountain. “The new
activities have made the Sun Bowl and Coca Cola Tube Park a destination, with
guests traveling here from throughout Vermont, New York, Massachusetts and New
Hampshire – visitors who are not skiing or riding but here for the activities.”
