Technology the Topic for Oil and Gas Industry’s Breakfast Briefing

“Technology - A new way forward for the UKCS?” is the title of the next Oil & Gas UK breakfast briefing at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on December 2 which will explore how technological innovation helps the oil and gas sector, and other industries including the aerospace sector, to achieve significant technical advances.

Oonagh Werngren, Oil & Gas UK’s operations director, explains: “The industry’s drive to put technological innovation at the forefront of the strategy to maximise economic recovery from the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) was boosted by the establishment of the Technology Leadership Board (TLB) this year. The chairman of the TLB, Paul Warwick, Executive Vice President, Europe -Atlantic for Talisman Energy Inc, will provide insights into how the group plans to ensure technology development for activities on the UKCS is collaborative, focused on priority areas and suitable for multi-field application.

“Another topical area, particularly in the field of recovering hydrocarbons, is unconventional resources. Utpal Ganguly, VP Integrated Reservoir Solutions Baker Hughes Inc, will share his experience of unlocking unconventional resources in North America, where there has been a phenomenal shift from being a net importer to energy sufficiency, and the continent is now moving towards becoming an exporter of resources such as shale gas.

“As ever, the industry iskeen to learn from how other sectors develop and deploy technology to improve performance and we will also be hearing from Gavin Campbell, Director for Aero Bombardier about the progress achieved by the Aerospace Growth Partnership”.

Following a short networking break, the event will reconvene for a panel session chaired by Oonagh Werngren.
