AMADOR URGES BIPARTISAN EFFORT
SUPPORTING TRAVEL BANS AND QUARANTINES
TIME FOR AREA’S CONGRESSMEN TO “GET ENGAGED”

Stockton—Antonio C. 'Tony' Amador, on Friday stepped up his call for immediate action on the deepening Ebola crisis, asking two of the region’s Democratic members of the U.S. House to get engaged and use their influence with the president.
Amador urged a bipartisan effort to expand measures to deal with the reported Ebola infections. A congressional candidate himself, Amador recognizes that Democratic Congressmen Jerry McNerney and Dr. Ami Bera are in a position to take action. Amador urged them to join with him and ask for an expanded travel ban and quarantine of travelers from Ebola “hot zones” in West Africa.
“These two members should be on the phone now with the White House, urging the president to do more to prevent the spread of this disease,” Amador said.
Earlier in the week, Amador called for tighter travel restrictions to slow the spread of the Ebola virus and a change in leadership at the CDC with the resignation of Tom Frieden.
“We have an area congressman who is both a medical doctor and a former public health official,” Amador said. “That’s why I think Dr. Bera could be instrumental in moving the national health leadership to take more serious action. I believe that combined with our San Joaquin representative Jerry McNerney, we can show that Democrats and Republicans can work together when our health and security is at risk.” Amador is currently seeking to replace McNerney in Congress.
“We should set aside politics during this crisis and seek cooperation across party lines to deal with this very serious crisis,” said Amador.
On Monday Amador stated, “The CDC and the Department of Homeland Security should consider a standard 21 day quarantine for anyone suspected of contact with infected persons."
“These measures may not halt the Ebola outbreak, but it will buy us much needed time to build up reserves of anti-virals to fight Ebola,” Amador said.
“The Ebola crisis must not take the same course as other crises that has confronted Congress,” said Amador. “I encourage people to contact their Representatives. We need to send an urgent message to Jerry McNerney and Dr. Bera to do what is right,” Amador stated.
