US-Mexico Border Energy Forum XX
20th anniversary to be held in San Antonio
AUSTIN TEXAS, July 18, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- AUSTIN — Top corporate executives and government officials — including Gary Doer, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States — will meet to discuss energy infrastructure, transport and finance at the 20th annual U.S.-Mexico Border Energy Forum, Nov. 6-8 at the Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk-Downtown.“The Border Energy Forum has worked to establish partnerships and encourage cross-border cooperation for 20 years now,” Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson said. “This year’s agenda looks forward to some of the challenges this region faces in the next 20 years.”
The Border Energy Forum is a collaborative effort among the 10 states along the U.S.-Mexico border. The original idea was to gather 50 people each from the United States and Mexico once a year to exchange information about the best ways to produce and consume energy in our fast-growing region, forge new partnerships and work together on economic development and environmental protection. The forum now draws an annual crowd surpassing 300, usually evenly divided between Americans and Mexicans. The forum has become a cornerstone of energy policy and program development for the region.
The Texas General Land Office pioneered the annual Border Energy Forum and now organizes it along with the Border Environment Cooperation Commission, the North American Development Bank, the Energy Council, the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the U.S.-Mexico Educational and Cultural Foundation. In addition, a large number of private- and public-sector organizations have been instrumental in the forum's continued success.
Members of the forum’s organizing committee this year include the Alamo Area Council of Governments, Build San Antonio Green, CPS Energy, Jóvenes AEM – Asociación de Empresarios Mexicanos, Mission Verde Alliance, Southwest Research Institute, South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (STEER), the University of Texas at San Antonio and the North American Development Bank. The Forum alternates each year between U.S. and Mexican cities along the border.
Last year’s forum was held in Hermosillo, Sonora. The Land Office coordinates the forum in collaboration with many public- and private-sector organizations. The forum is a non-profit event made possible through sponsorships and grants. For more information, please visit www.borderenergyforum.org.
