UK’s Offshore Oil and Gas Industry Implements the Working Time Directive Today

The UK Offshore Oil and Gas Industry has confirmed that it complies with the Working Time Directive that comes in force offshore from today.

The Working Time Directive sets out legal requirements to protect workers from excessive working hours.

It means that workers should work no more than 2304 hours per year. A typical work pattern of 2 weeks offshore followed by two weeks onshore or 26 weeks on, 26 weeks off per annum means that most offshore workers currently work in the region of 2000 hours per year.

Steve Harris, UKOOAs Acting Director General, commented, The offshore oil and gas industry is confident that it has complied with the working time legislation, as set out in Brussels and implemented in the UK, for many years.

We provide and offer exciting jobs in a progressive and dynamic industry that appeal to many like minded people.

Whilst we are clear that the industry already complies with the new legislation, in the event that we discover that there are issues that we need to address, we will do so.
