Minister Ritz Announces Reappointment to the Farm Products Council of Canada

Ottawa, Ontario, June 25, 2012 – Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz today announced the reappointment of Mr. John Griffin as a member of the Farm Products Council of Canada (FPCC).

“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Griffin has been reappointed to the Council,” said Minister Ritz. “With over 20 years of experience in the Canadian agribusiness sector, this reappointment ensures that the Council will continue to benefit from his insights and knowledge.”

The FPCC has seven members and plays a key role in the supply management system for poultry and eggs. The Council supervises the operations of the four national marketing agencies that manage the supply of Canadian chicken, turkey, table eggs, and broiler-hatching eggs, ensuring they work best for both producers and consumers. These agencies implement and administer marketing plans, allocate production quotas, and generate their revenues through levies.

In addition, the Council supervises the operation of the National Beef Cattle Research, Market Development and Promotion Agency.

Mr. Griffin’s reappointment is for a term of four years and is effective July 30, 2012.
