Charity runners from Chester lined up with Coronation Street stars in Manchester recently to take part in the city’s annual 10k running event, the highlight of a weekend of sporting events.

The four all work at The Funding Corporation on Chester Business Park, and managed to raise almost £600 in sponsorship for the automotive industry charity BEN.

But when the Chester champs returned to their desks on Monday, they received more than just the congratulations of their employers.

The company also said it would double the money they had managed to collect for the charity.

Runners at The Funding Corporation were picked from those of the 200-plus staff who stepped forward to participate, and each of their £50 entry fees was also paid for by the company.

The Bupa Great Manchester Run attracted thousands of entries this year, including almost 20 runners from the cast of Coronation Street which is filmed in Manchester.

Taking part from The Funding Corporation were Collections Representative Daryl Roughley; Collections Administrator Libby Nuttall; Company Treasurer Steve Ewell and Finance Ledgers Clerk Laynie Stothart-Wilde.
