Free-Market Coalition Calls on Congress to Root Out Wasteful Farm Subsidies

Today AFP joined a coalition of 11 free-market organizations calling on Congress to cut back wasteful farm subsidies.

The Farm Bill, a series of U.S. Department of Agriculture programs that are reauthorized by Congress every five years, will be debated once again this summer, and Congress has an opportunity to reap significant savings by ending government handouts to agri-businesses and special interests.

"With the Farm Bill reauthorization in progress, Congress must take this opportunity to reassess unnecessary and complicated federal policies that manipulate market decisions in this critical and vital component of our economy," the letter says.
