Kansas City – A woman who claims she endured religious based harassment while working for AT&T, has won a sizable judgment against the telecommunications company. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Susann Bashir, who filed a discrimination lawsuit after purportedly being harassed by co-workers following her conversion to the Muslim religion, was awarded in excess of $5 million for her claim last week.

Bashir worked for the company for a decade prior to being fired from her job, for which she earned $70,000 a year. She alleged that during the last three years of her employment at AT&T in Kansas City, she was discriminated against due to her religious affiliation. An investigation into her complaint was launched by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2008.

A jury awarded Bashir $5 million in punitive damages and in addition to actual damages.

AT&T is reportedly planning to appeal the verdict.
