As one of several charity events benefiting Warfighter Sports, Flancer's Restaurant is hosting Spill the Wine, Eat that Cheese at Flancer's restaurant in Mesa on Wednesday, April 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. This event will feature Flancer's Chef Corey Weig who will be demonstrating how to work with phyllo dough and attendees will be treated to the unique dish he prepares. Flancer's General Manager and Chef Greg Ringel will make a California Rumaki w/ dates, water chestnuts and bacon. Attendees will sample the dishes along with a surprise dish while sampling domestic/imported cheese trays supplied from Trader Joe's. "With the popularity of television cooking shows, we just knew we wanted to highlight our chefs and let the public see what we do behind the scenes," owner Jeff Flancer said.

The Spill the Wine, Eat that Cheese fundraiser features wine pouring from a spectacular collection of California family-owned wineries that make hand-crafted full flavored wines. Leading the event is Tracy Uffelman, a Veteran and Vice President of Alliance Beverage Distributing Company LLC. Tracy has experience from all around the world and was first involved in Napa Valley when there were 12 wineries, now there are over 600! "He will lead our palates through the joys and subtle nuances of the wines," Flancer said.

For this year's fundraiser, Flancer's has created several opportunities to raise funds for Warfighter Sports (www.warfightersports.org), the group that has been "serving the severely wounded since 1967." Other ways to support the cause are buying raffle tickets at Flancer's Café & online (several prizes being awarded with a value of $1,000, attending or sponsoring the Flancer's Pizza Eating contest (first place prize is $500) held at Flancer's in Gilbert on Sunday, April 22, or putting together a team for Bowling for the Brave, to be held at Brunswick Zone in Gilbert on May 2nd.

The fundraising event spearheaded by Flancer's in 2011 raised $33,000 and they are hoping to raise at least as much (if not more) this year for those individuals who give their lives for their country. Jeff thanked all the local business sponsors that make these fundraisers a success and acknowledged those who have been major participants year after year, such as Ben Franklin Plumbing, Shamrock Foods, Alliance Beverage, and Tap & Sons Electric.

Kirk M. Bauer, JD, executive director of Disabled Sports USA acknowledged Flancer's long history of fundraising with the following statement. "Disabled Sports USA thanks Flancer's Café and all involved in the annual Pizza Eating Fundraiser for their continued support of our Warfighter Sports program. Since 2005, this fundraiser has raised over $100,000, enabling Disabled Sports USA to serve thousands of wounded warriors, including those in Arizona, to rebuild their lives through participation in sports with their families, free of cost."
