Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement after attending today’s oral arguments in the Supreme Court regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare:

“For three days, the Supreme Court heard arguments for and against President Obama’s signature piece of legislation, Obamacare. I had the great opportunity to sit in the courtroom this morning and listen to the arguments regarding severability. This presented the question: if one part of the bill is found to be unconstitutional, does the entire bill fail? There seemed to be a general agreement that without the individual mandate, the heart of Obamacare, the other parts will go unfunded and fail.

“This legislation is controversial and strikes at the very core issue here—how do we make health care more accessible to every American while providing the highest possible quality at the lowest possible price? The solution will not be found in Obamacare. Instead of turning to socialized medicine, we need to improve health care through free market solutions and by letting people spend their own tax-free dollars on health care.

“Today I heard the Justices ask thoughtful questions, and I hope that they will declare all parts of Obamacare unconstitutional so that Congress can move forward and implement real, free market solutions.”

Bachmann has been a long-time advocate of repealing the President’s health care overhaul. Hours after passage, Bachmann introduced the first bill in the House of Representatives to repeal Obamacare in full.
