La Fundación IBERDROLA ha convocado la tercera edición de su programa de ayudas sociales Energía para la Solidaridad, cuyo objetivo es contribuir al bienestar y la calidad de vida de colectivos en riesgo de exclusión.
The Fundación IBERDROLA has announced the third edition of its social grants programme, 'Energy for Solidarity', which aims to contribute towards the well-being and quality of life of groups at risk of exclusion.
These grants, which have already benefited 113 institutions, seek to help to cover the basic needs and promote the social and labour integration of the most vulnerable sectors of the population, contribute towards combating climate change and protecting the environment, and promoting other projects of interest that are aligned with the aims of the Foundation and the Social Responsibility strategy of the IBERDROLA Group.
The Fundación IBERDROLA will assess three different kinds of projects. First of all, those that focus on combating poverty and social exclusion, with the following priority groups: long-term unemployed, children, young or elderly people that have been neglected, victims of gender-based violence, immigrants, people with disabilities, people with high functioning skills that do not have access to the right treatment, people with serious or degenerative diseases, people with addictions, and in general, all those that have difficulties in covering basic aspects of everyday living.
The second category will be for initiatives with a focus on protecting the environment and bringing down CO2 emissions, by involving some of the groups mentioned above. In this regard, the projects should focus on the conservation of biodiversity and natural spaces, a commitment to sustainable development through the use of renewable energies and efficient resource and waste management, as well as generating green jobs for people at risk of exclusion.
In the third category, the Fundación IBERDROLA will assess assistance-based or socio-educational projects of interest for the contribution they make towards the quality of life of these people.
The Energy for Solidarity programme is open to not-for-profit organisations with public utility status, which pursue general interest purposes. Applicants should submit their proposals by 9 April next. For the necessary information, please visit: www.fundacioniberdrola.org.
The initiatives that benefit from this programme should be carried out in Spain, in the period between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2013. The maximum period for implementation is one year.
About the Fundación IBERDROLA
The Fundación IBERDROLA, with Ignacio Galán as its Founding Trustee and Manuel Marín in the role of Chairman, focuses its activity in three main spheres of action: progress towards a sustainable energy model, cultural development in the countries where IBERDROLA operates and cooperation towards development and solidarity.
As well as the Energy for Solidarity scheme, the Foundation also runs an extensive postgraduate scholarship programme aimed at contributing towards the training of young researchers in the field of energy and making progress towards a sustainable energy model.
The foundation is also involved in various projects for the conservation of the historical artistic heritage. One of the highlights in this field is its Atlantic Romanesque Heritage Restoration Programme, in collaboration with the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and the Regional Government of Castile and León, which aims to restore Romanesque temples located in the vicinity of the rivers Duero and Támega, and the funding and design of the lighting for unique buildings in our heritage, such as the interior of the Church at Yuso Monastery (La Rioja) or the Basilica of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial (Madrid).
