Bachmann Releases Statement on Latest Unemployment Numbers

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement regarding the latest unemployment numbers reported today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the need for real job creating solutions:

“Today’s jobs numbers will elicit elation from President Obama, but for the millions of Americans who remain unemployed and the millions more who have given up looking for work or are underemployed, today’s unemployment rate of 8.3 percent is another reminder that this President still doesn’t understand that government doesn’t create jobs. It was just over three years ago that President Obama said that if the economy isn’t turned around in three years he was looking at a ‘one term proposition.’  Mr. President, we are here today to remind you that three years have passed.

“President Obama promised at the beginning of his administration that if we passed the massive stimulus package that unemployment wouldn’t go above eight percent. Unfortunately, millions of Americans are suffering today as a result of that broken promise and his failed policy of attempting to create jobs through massive government spending that has added trillions to our national debt. And the President still has no ideas for turning the economy around and creating jobs, except for more spending, higher taxes and higher gas prices as a result of his failed energy policy. Mr. President, you can’t tax and spend your way to prosperity.

“With unemployment above eight percent for more than 36 months, many Americans have lost hope. But 8.3 percent unemployment does not need to be the future of this nation. We need lower taxes, decreased government spending and regulation, legalized American energy production and the repeal of Obamacare, the government’s takeover of our healthcare system. These commonsense solutions will create a stable environment for job creation.”
