MPD Investigations Leads to Recovery of Synthetic Marijuana, Three Weapons

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the recovery of three firearms and a large quantity of synthetic marijuana, and the arrest of a suspect after an investigation in the First District.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 1, 2025, members of the First District’s Special Missions Unit investigated the manufacturing of Synthetic Cannabinoids in the 1300 block of E Street, Southeast. Investigators located a suspect loading a storage tub into a vehicle outside of a residence. The suspect was stopped and placed under arrest without incident and a brown leafy substance was observed inside of the storage tub.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at a residence in that block. 214 pounds of suspected synthetic marijuana was recovered, along with an AK-47 style pistol and two handguns. Additional items used in the manufacturing of drugs were observed and recovered.

28-year-old Tyrone Phillips, of Southeast, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Counterfeit Tags.

The First District Special Missions Unit continues to investigate this case and is working to identify any outstanding suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
