Limpopo Legislature congratulates the department’s outstanding performance

Education Committee Chairperson congratulates the Department’s outstanding performance

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education in the Limpopo Legislature, Hon Nkakareng Rakgoale, has congratulated the Matric class of 2024 and the Department for placing the Limpopo Province in a commendable position, nationally.

Commenting on the sidelines of the occasion to announce the 2024 matric results, Hon Rakgoale indicated that these outcomes are ‘a demonstration of a department that is committed to place the education needs of its children at the apex of its priorities’.

Hon Rakgoale has indicated that, ‘while everybody was expecting an improved result in Limpopo, very few people expected this unprecedented record of 85.1% since the dawn of democracy’.

She has attributed this unparalleled achievement to the collaborative effort between various stakeholders within the education sector.

‘This’ she said, ‘was made possible through the support of parents, the dedication of teachers and learners, the cooperation of organs of civil society and the immense backing of the Department under the stewardship of MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya’.

She has further indicated that the improved performance by schools within the Quintiles 1 – 3, is a clear indication that government’s investment within the education sector is bearing the desired results.

Hon Rakgoale is adamant that poor performing schools should also be provided with the necessary tools of support, ‘if Limpopo is to be counted within the Top 5 performing provinces’.

She has cited the example of the Kgothala Secondary School in Sekhukhune – a previously dysfunctional school which has surged to a remarkable 99.21% in 2024, from a previous 47.98% in 2017.
Members of the Portfolio Committee on Education will use the ‘Back to School Campaign’ on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, to assess the state of readiness in schools, as most of them will be re-opening for the 2025 academic year.
