WTO advanced trade policy course for Spanish-speaking officials concludes in Geneva

While engaging in workshops, case studies and roundtable discussions, participants learned about current trade issues and WTO discussions and strengthened their expertise on applying trade agreements. The course also provided opportunities to interact with Geneva-based WTO member representatives, experts from other international organizations, as well as representatives from the WTO Secretariat.

Speaking at the closing session of the training programme, Dr Sofia Boza Martínez, Chile's WTO Ambassador and patroness of the course, commended the participants for their dedication and hard work. She noted that the course provided a unique opportunity to enhance participants' ability to address the current challenges linked to multilateral trade policy and emphasized the crucial role that multilateralism, as embodied by the WTO, plays in strengthening global governance.

Stefania Bernabé from the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation noted that the course was very interactive thanks to the participants' active engagement.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Ana Román from the Dominican Republic and Ingrid Jauregui from Peru expressed thanks for the opportunity to participate in the policy course and underscored how  the training helped boost their confidence and prepare them to face challenges in their respective professional positions. Juan Regino Oke Okomo from Equatorial Guinea stressed that the trade negotiation simulation sessions very closely resembled real negotiations.
