Sen. Muth Announces Over $1.6 Million in Multimodal Grants for SD44 Projects

ATGLEN, March 26, 2024: State Sen. Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) today announced that three Chester County projects received over $1.6 million in state grants through the Multimodal Transportation Fund program.  

The projects were approved this morning at a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.

“It is imperative that our state government continues to invest funds in our communities to fund projects that address traffic issues, improve road safety, and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities,” Muth said. “This over $1.6 million will continue to improve our network of trails in Chester County and improve two heavily travelled intersections in Chester County.”

The following SD44 projects in Chester County received Multimodal Transportation Fund grants:  

  • Chester County received $907,000 for the construction of a connecting trail segment in Atglen Borough and West Sadsbury Township.
  • East Whiteland Township received $400,000 for Route 30 corridor improvements, the project will improve the intersection of Route 30 and Sproul Road (PA 352).
  • PT Phoenixville received $343,000 for a project to improve the intersection of Valley Forge Road and Whitehorse Road in Schuylkill Township.

Applications for the Multimodal Transportation Fund are accepted annually between March 1 and July 31. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
