Philanthropy Roundtable Announces Christie Herrera as New President and CEO

WASHINGTON – Philanthropy Roundtable announced today that its board of directors has unanimously chosen Christie Herrera as the organization’s next president and CEO after conducting a national search. Effective immediately, Herrera will become the fifth executive to lead the Roundtable since it was formally established in 1991.

“We could not be more pleased with this outcome and the opportunity it presents to strengthen the Roundtable and grow our community,” said Philanthropy Roundtable Board Chairman Richard W. Graber. “Christie is a bold and talented leader who truly understands private philanthropy’s unique ability to address our nation’s most pressing problems. Her depth of experience, strategic vision and commitment to our values make her the perfect choice to guide the Roundtable into the future.”

For more than 30 years, Philanthropy Roundtable has unapologetically made the case that private charitable giving is essential to a free and flourishing society. As a donor network committed to the values of liberty, opportunity and personal responsibility, the Roundtable works tirelessly to advance philanthropic freedom, foster philanthropic excellence and showcase how those shared values improve lives through effective philanthropy.

“I’m grateful for the incredible team at Philanthropy Roundtable and so proud of our work to build a vibrant American philanthropic movement that strengthens our free society,” said Herrera. “After nearly 25 years collaborating with nonprofit leaders who are putting our values to work on the ground, I’ve never been so certain that philanthropic freedom is the key to empowering individuals and addressing our society’s toughest challenges. The Roundtable’s community is needed now more than ever, and to work on behalf of donors who share our values—that’s the ultimate honor.”

Herrera joined Philanthropy Roundtable in 2019 and has served in various leadership positions overseeing its philanthropic programs, policy work and marketing and communications capabilities. She was also a member of the Roundtable’s executive team and appointed as interim president and CEO in June 2023.

A New Jersey native, Herrera began her career in public policy helping nonprofits across the country turn ideas into action. Over the course of more than two decades, she has helped national and community leaders enact legislation or executive action in nearly every state to ensure everyone has access to the American dream. Her previous work has focused on increasing access to quality, affordable health care, helping people gain independence by moving from welfare to good-paying jobs and empowering families to put an end to generational poverty.

Philanthropy Roundtable is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and sustaining a vibrant American philanthropic movement that strengthens our free society. To achieve this vision, the Roundtable pursues a mission to foster excellence in philanthropy, protect philanthropic freedom and help donors to advance liberty, opportunity and personal responsibility.
