Worker Killed in 3-Story Fall at Charlotte Construction Site

Charlotte, NC — Investigations are underway at a construction site in northeast Charlotte, after a construction worker fell off a roof and was fatally injured. The fatal construction accident occurred Wednesday morning, October 26, 2011, just after 8 a.m. at the Pike Energy Solutions building on Claude Freeman Drive, reported WCNC.

According to reports, the construction worker was on top of the building where a garbage chute is located, which is connected to a dumpster. The garbage chute and the unidentified worker suddenly fell three stories for unknown reasons. The worker landed in the industrial size dumpster and sustained life-threatening injuries.

Responding emergency crews tried to save the man, but his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

A full investigation into the deadly construction accident is underway. It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the construction accident.
