His striking photography has become a part of the new look at The St. Pete Times forum. Six of his photographs are produced on silk each 5 feet by 7 feet in size. Don has been photographing our stormy skies for over 21 years, his work has been appreciated worldwide.
His photographs are much more then lightning images, Don searches the coast to search for promising locations. He has a lightning detector next to his bed which warns him of any lightning within sixty miles, Don then watches the weather radar for lightning producing storm cells that are heading toward those locations. It takes patience to be a lightning photographer .His most popular image called "The Wreck," took him two years and over fifty visit's to secure. Naumann usually gets one or two show show quality shots a year.
Naumann captures his magic on film. His camera of choice is a 1959 Hasselblad 500 C with a distagon 50 mm lens and his photographs are timed exposures anywhere from 10 seconds to ten minutes. The medium format allows him to enlarge the images with no loss of clarity.
His photograph Images to be exhibited at The St. Pete Times forum are The Wreck, The Morgan Blues, Mostly Scattered Showers, Golden touch are hung, Mast Lite and August Midnight will be hung in the near future.
