In support of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), the U.S. Departments of State and Energy (DOE) will participate in the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) in Bridgetown, Barbados, on October 13-14, 2011. Ambassador Carlos Pascual, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs, will lead the U.S. delegation. Policymakers from across the Caribbean, as well as private industry, international organizations, multilateral development banks, and NGOs working to advance renewable energy and energy efficiency in the region, will gather together for the two-day conference.

In support of ECPA’s Caribbean Sustainability Initiative, which is coordinated by the Organization of American States (OAS), United States and Caribbean energy ministers and senior officials are holding the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Dialogue to discuss opportunities for collaboration on renewable energy and energy efficiency.

At the April 2009 Summit of the Americas, President Obama invited all countries of the Western Hemisphere to participate in the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), a voluntary and flexible framework with a focus on seven pillars: renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy poverty, cleaner fossil fuels, infrastructure, adaptation, and sustainable land use and forests.
