WASHINGTON – Energy-efficient practices at the Federal Aviation Administration’s Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) earned a coveted recognition from the U.S. Energy Department. The facility in Oklahoma City, Okla., received the Department’s 50001 Ready designation after demonstrating its leadership in energy management and performance improvement.
“We are proud of the hard work our team did to achieve this designation,” said MMAC Director Michelle Coppedge. “We are committed to doing our part to operate sustainability.”
The Center is the first facility in the U.S. Department of Transportation to achieve this designation. It has a number of sustainability initiatives in place and in progress, and this fall will construct the FAA’s largest solar array grid to date.
50001 Ready is a DOE recognition program that provides guidance and resources for sites that seek to implement international standards for establishing, managing and improving their energy consumption and efficiency.
