Bachmann Honors Stillwater’s Steve & Ann Jacobs with 2011 Angels in Adoption Award

Steve and Ann Jacobs of Stillwater, Minn. were recognized today in the nation’s capital as the 2011 Angels in Adoption from Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) nominated the Jacobs for their commitment to providing foster children with a permanent home through adoption. The Jacobs have cared for over 30 foster children and adopted 10 of them, including three groups of siblings.

While in the nation’s capital, the Jacobs are joining over 140 other Angels in Adoption, representing districts across the nation. The 2011 Angels are sharing their adoption experiences with one another and with their elected officials to bring awareness to adoption issues. The Jacobs’ time in Washington will conclude with a gala event Wednesday evening, Oct. 5, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

“It is a pleasure to nominate the Jacobs for their excellent work in caring for and adopting so many of our area’s foster children,” said Bachmann. “As a foster mother of 23, I know the sacrifice required to open one’s home, but the love and support these children need cannot be underestimated. I commend Steve and Ann for stepping up to the plate. They have not only been advocates, but by their lives they have demonstrated the good we are capable of doing in our communities. I am pleased that my district is home to this couple who inspire our area to reach out and care for children in need.”

Ann Jacobs said, of the opportunity to travel to Washington for the Angels in Adoption ceremony, “It’s exciting to think about the opportunities to network and look at the different advocacy options. I’d love to find a way to use our experience to make it easier for somebody else.”

The Angels in Adoption program is run by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) to bring awareness to adoption issues and honor individuals doing outstanding work for foster children and orphans. CCAI was created in 2001 by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, which Bachmann co-chairs in the House of Representatives.

The Jacobs live in Stillwater, Minn., where they are parents to 10 adoptive children and five biological children.
