Google for the first time has released its annual electricity consumption, including data on renewable electricity use. For 2010, Google reported that 25% of the company's 2.26 million Megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity use was supplied by renewable sources. A majority of the 25% claimed comes from renewable electricity already in the grid, while the remaining comes from renewable electricity purchased directly by Google.

Google also announced that it has partnered with Clean Power Finance to create a $75 million fund for residential solar projects. The investment will allow about 3,000 households to implement rooftop PV solar installations. The fund will allow homeowners to install up to $30,000 worth of solar panels with little to no upfront costs. Homeowners will pay a monthly fee comparable to their monthly local utility bill. Google will own the solar installations and will be paid as customers purchase the electricity produced by the panels.
