Nathaniel Goldberg was born and educated in France and undertook his photography apprenticeship in New York.
He freelanced for several photographers including Marc Hispard and Mario Testino. In 1992, Testino offered Goldberg the job of first assistant in his Paris studio. Goldberg found assisting a tremendous experience. Working non-stop alongside Testino for two years, Goldberg witnessed the work ethic that would soon make Testino a fashion star.
In 1995, Nathaniel decided to go out on his own. He shoot some black and white studio portrait of people thought looked interesting then showed them to stylists he know. Emmanuel Alt, then editor of French magazine 21, gave him his first boosts.
He returned to New York and was soon shooting for W, Harper's Bazaar and other prestigious magazines. When he was 26 he landed his first campaign for DKNY.
Over the years, he has refined some trademarks. One is to slightly obscure the subject of a portrait or beauty shot by shooting though foliage or a frame, creating a slight blur in the foreground. Another Goldberg signature is his love of daylight He has developed a set up that combines artificial light and natural light.
Nathaniel Goldberg's sophisticated approach to fashion photography is featured in Italian and Japanese Vogue, GQ and W Magazine. His advertising clients include DKNY, Hermès, Chanel and Calvin Klein.
