September 5, 2011 -- New York -- AJC expressed support for the Israeli government’s move today to begin demolishing homes in the illegal West Bank settlement Migron.

“To his credit, Prime Minister Netanyahu is doing exactly what he should be doing in a country that cherishes the rule of law -- carrying out the Israeli Supreme Court decision that Migron is illegal and must be dismantled,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Migron residents, whatever their personal views of the decision might be, should cooperate, not seek to take the law into their own hands.”

At the same time, AJC condemned an arson attack on a mosque in Qusra, near Nablus, that took place soon after Israeli soldiers began to dismantle homes in Migron. “Any such attack on a house of worship is abhorrent, and the perpetrators should be brought to justice as swiftly as possible and to the fullest extent of the law,” Harris said.
