Obamacare Grows the Government in 47 Ways
As a former tax litigation attorney, I am very much aware of the burden the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) places upon the American taxpayer. In its role as the enforcer of the overly complex U.S. tax code, the IRS collects huge percentages of Americans’ hard-earned paychecks for the government’s coffers. It is my strong belief that this agency’s power should be greatly reduced and that is why, since coming to Capitol Hill in 2007, I have fought to simplify the tax code and lower tax rates. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration does not share my view. Instead of cutting back the power of the IRS, the President has decided to give it more power.
With the passage of Obamacare, the Obama Administration gave the IRS 47 specific opportunities to expand. By administrating this horrific national health reform law, the IRS will have all types of various duties. Here’s just a sample:
• Collecting fines from business owners who cannot afford to cover all of their employees.
• Forcing all Americans to pay into a trust fund that supports research to determine which government health policy is best.
• Imposing fees on the manufacturers of certain branded prescription drugs.
The IRS will also go on the attack against those people the White House considers “millionaires”, forcing couples making more than $250,000 a year to pay a “Hospital Insurance (Medicare) Tax” which will be 0.9% of their annual salary. Sadly, these are just some of the new duties of the IRS.
I reject the undue pressure being placed upon the American people by the IRS to accept Obamacare. As President Ronald Reagan once so eloquently stated, “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.” I agree. Big government does not belong in a free nation. In short, expanding the IRS will only serve to weaken our healthcare system with unnecessary government bureaucracy. We need to defund and repeal Obamacare.
