Europe and Eurasia: Liechtenstein's National Day

Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
August 11, 2011

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Principality of Liechtenstein as you celebrate your 205th anniversary of independence this August 15.

Our two countries share values deeply rooted in democratic traditions. Today, we are working on areas of mutual interest that are helping people around the world. Your nation demonstrates the impact that even the smallest countries can have on the world stage.

Recently, you have taken steps large and small that are positively contributing to the success of your country. You are shining a light on banks that, for too long, have been hiding in the shadows. You are bolstering vital data collection and sharing efforts as we work together to fight international terrorism. In these, and many other areas, the United States is a committed partner and friend.

As you honor your rich history on this special day, I wish all citizens of Liechtenstein continued peace and prosperity.
