New Delhi, India, 10 August 2011 (www.phayul.com) -
"People get up early morning to pray to their Gods but
side by side involve in corruption. These two cannot go hand in hand. Faith
without moral values is not faith," said His Holiness the Dalai Lama in
the Indian capital New Delhi today.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was delivering the fourth annual lecture of the National Commission for Minorities at the India International Center.
Addressing the problem of corruption that plagues India and China, the Dalai Lama said that the absence of moral values was the reason behind the rampant rise in corruption.

"Without moral values, a person loses self-control and does what is wrong as soon as he finds the opportunity," the exiled Tibetan leader said.
Hailing India for her tolerance of diverse cultures, religions, and languages,
the Dalai Lama said he continues to be inspired by the ancient Indian
principles of non-violence and religious harmony.
Speaking on the universality of moral ethics, His Holiness the Dalai Lama underlined the importance of the secular nature of moral ethics.
“Some people mistakenly believe that moral ethics are based on religious
values. If that was so, then it can never be universal because the reality is
there are so many religious traditions,” His Holiness said.
“Secular ethics relate to all of us as the same human beings using our common experience, common sense, and latest scientific findings to make positive changes in oneself and others,” the Dalai Lama added.
Speaking on his recent devolution of political authority to the elected political leadership, the Tibetan spiritual leader who is scheduled to leave for a three-nation Europe tour said that it was a decision he “happily, voluntarily and proudly” took.
Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, NCM Chairman Wajahat Habibullah, BJP leader Jaswant Singh and Minister of State for Minority Affairs Vincent H Pala were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
