Iowa State Expands Wind Purchase
Iowa State University has been designated a Green Power Partner by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for purchasing enough wind power to supply more than 7 percent of its electricity needs. The purchase is an increase from 2010, when Iowa State was purchasing approximately 8.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to 4.4 percent of its electricity use. The wind energy is sourced from NextEra Energy's 100-turbine wind farm near Zearing, Iowa. Iowa State has a goal of getting 10 percent of its electricity from wind resources.
