Senate Key Vote: Support Ryan Budget
Dear Senator,
On behalf of more than 1.7 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I urge you to support H.Con.Res. 34, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s FY2012 budget resolution. This budget resolution for FY2012 sets out a credible plan for the federal budget’s future that is compassionate, sustainable, and properly limited.
I urge you to vote Yes on H.Con.Res. 34, Chairman Ryan’s budget resolution. AFP will rate this vote in our congressional ratings.
Chairman Ryan’s FY2012 budget resolution offers a clear and credible alternative to the present course we’ve seen in Washington. Instead of a future where government spending consumes an ever-expanding share of our economy and where our citizens are mired in government debt, Chairman Ryan’s plan puts the country on a sustainable fiscal path, limits government spending, and provides a blueprint for reform of the nation’s broken entitlement programs. Notably, the budget resolution achieves this responsibly: without raising taxes on citizens and businesses and without breaking current obligations to our nation’s seniors using Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
While many in Washington lack the political courage necessary to propose much-needed changes to entitlement programs, Ryan’s budget provides premium assistance to seniors on Medicare and block grants federal Medicaid funds – reforms that will allow the programs to keep current promises to beneficiaries while also preventing them from driving the nation into fiscal ruin. Block granting Medicaid is a particularly important reform to a welfare program with an outdated and unsustainable funding model. Block granting Medicaid builds on the successful AFDC-TANF transition of 1996 – giving states the control to find innovative and cost-effective ways to help the neediest among us.
Finally, on taxes Ryan gets it right: lowering top rates for individuals and corporations while broadening the base, thereby reducing taxes by $1.8 trillion when compared to the president’s proposed budget.
I urge you to vote Yes on H.Con.Res. 34, Chairman Ryan’s budget resolution. AFP will rate this vote in our congressional ratings.
Sincerely,
James Valvo
