CHICAGO — Ed Rivenburgh, information delivery services (IDS) project director at the State University of New York Geneseo, has been selected  the winner of the 2011 Virginia Boucher/OCLC Distinguished ILL Librarian Award.

The award, administered by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), recognizes an individual for outstanding professional achievement, leadership and significant contributions to the fields of interlibrary loan and document delivery and is generously supported by OCLC. Rivenburgh was selected for his excellent leadership of the IDS Project, a resource sharing cooperative he founded along with 11 other library directors. According to his nominators, this cooperative is fundamentally changing how ILL processing and resource sharing is done both among its more than 65 New York library members and across the state and the nation. Notably, it is Rivenburgh’s leadership that provides out-of-the-box thinking, streamlines the ILL process and creates efficiencies and fosters a unique community partnership of mutually supportive libraries.

“The IDS Project is an exemplary example of an innovative approach to ILL and is at the heart of what this award is about,” said Amy Paulus, award committee chair. “In addition to this work, Rivenburgh also contributes to the profession through mentoring, conference planning and conference presentations. He is truly a well-rounded contributor to the ILL profession.”

Rivenburgh holds a Master’s in Library Science from Simmons College, a Master’s in Education from Michigan State University and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in Education from Boston University. He has received numerous professional achievement awards, most recently the Friend of State University of New York Librarians Association (SUNYLA) award (2007) and the Nylink Achievement Award (2005). He also received the Ray Murray Award (1998) from the New York State Library Assistants’ Association.

The award, a citation and $2,000 cash prize, will be presented at the RUSA Awards Reception, scheduled for 5 - 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26 as a part of RUSA’s events at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
