March 09, 2011 - Anglo American appoints Phuthuma Nhleko to the Board
Anglo American plc announces the appointment to its Board of Phuthuma Nhleko as a non-executive director, with immediate effect. Phuthuma Nhleko is the Group President and CEO of MTN Group, the Johannesburg listed multinational telecommunications group, a role he has held since 2002.
Under Phuthumas leadership, MTN has achieved significant international growth and is currently established in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East, with revenues in excess of $15 billion in 2009. Phuthuma will stand down as Group President and CEO at the end of March 2011 and will become the Non-Executive Vice-Chairman of MTN Group and Chairman of MTN International, both of which are non-executive roles.
