Recall of ‘Mas-River’ Fried Dace with Salted Black Beans Due to High Levels of Histamine

The above implicated batch of ‘Mas-River’ Fried Dace with Salted Black Beans, is being recalled due to high levels of histamine. The implicated cans of fish product have been removed from sale and in-store notices are being displayed in the two affected ethnic retailers in Dublin, informing customers of the recall. No action is required by official agencies.

Consumers are advised not to eat this implicated batch. Cooking the fish will not remove the histamine.

High levels of histamine can lead to Scombrotoxic* fish poisoning. Symptoms of this fish poisoning are similar to those of an alergic reaction: skin rash, low blood pressure, vomiting, diarrhoea and also include headaches, dizziness, palpitations and abdominal cramps. Symptoms can occur from ten minutes after consumption of the affected fish.

*(Scombroid fish species include mackerel, tuna, mahi-mahi, bonito, sardines, anchovies and other species including dace).
