Senate Key Vote: Oppose S. 3194, the Public Employee-Employer Cooperation Act.

Dear Senator,

On behalf of more than 1.5 million Americans for Prosperity (AFP) activists in all 50 states, I urge you to reject the union payoff masquerading under the title of the “Public Employee-Employer Cooperation Act.” Should this bill pass, state and local governments would be saddled with an unfunded mandate and would have their local rules—including Right to Work—overridden by this federal union payoff.

I urge you to vote No on S. 3194, the so-called “Public Employee-Employer Cooperation Act.” AFP will rate the cloture vote and any subsequent vote in our congressional ratings.

Per usual, this bill has an unassuming name that is more or less the opposite of what the bill actually is—an unnecessary, expensive, and harmful bill that would force state and local governments to recognize union bosses as the exclusive bargaining agents for public-safety workers.

This bill is an unfunded mandate on state and local government that will force a higher tax burden at the state and local levels. It would strengthen public employee unions by forcing more workers into them when they are already strangling state and local governments fiscally. Shockingly, this bill would even force Right to Work states to unionize their public safety workforces.

Furthermore, this bill is nothing more than a political stunt by Leader Reid to appease his union constituencies. The Lame Duck session is the wrong time to make major policy changes. The American people have already elected a large block of senators who deserve to have their voice heard on this important issue. On that basis alone, I urge you to vote no.

I urge you to reject the political posturing and union payoff by voting No on S. 3194. AFP will rate this vote in our congressional ratings.

Sincerely,

James Valvo
Director of Government Affairs
Americans for Prosperity
