Montgomery County, IA--- A fatal head-on collision on Iowa Highway 48 ended the lives of two young children. At 5:41 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010, a Nissan Altima and a Kia Spectra collided, just four miles south of Red Oak, as reported by KETV.
Preliminary accident reports indicated that a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Karli Brown, 18, of Essex, was traveling southbound on the highway, when she decided to pass two vehicles on a hill, in a no-passing zone. A northbound Kia Spectra driven by Nina McNeese, 25, of Cumberland, collided head-on with the Nissan at the top of the hill.
McNeese’s two children, ages 4 and 5, were killed in the tragic accident.
Responding emergency medical crews rushed both McNeese and Brown to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by medical helicopter. Both of the drivers reportedly sustained critical lower-body injuries.
All of the victims, both deceased and injured, were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
