Media Alert: World Aids Day
WHAT: In honor of World AIDS Day (Wednesday, December 1), Starbucks will make a five cent U.S. contribution to the Global Fund through its partnership with (RED) for every hand-crafted beverage sold at participating locations in the U.S. and Canada.
For those that are unable to make it to their local Starbucks on World AIDS Day, they can still help fight against AIDS in Africa by visiting www.starbucks.com/share and be one of the first to watch an exclusive video created for (RED)™ by the Killers. Each time the video is viewed through this site, Starbucks will make a five cent U.S. contribution to the Global Fund.
Since launching our partnership with (RED)TM in December 2008, Starbucks has generated enough money to buy more than 18 million days of medicine, helping to reach millions of people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Additionally during this Holiday season, (RED)TM and Starbucks collaborated with celebrity designer Jonathan Adler to create a new limited-edition (STARBUCKS)RED To-Go Cup – $1 U.S. goes to the Global Fund for each purchase – and (STARBUCKS)RED Card – five cents U.S. goes to the Global Fund for each swipe of the card. The purchase of these or any other (STARBUCKS)RED products help fund programs that support the goal of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 2015.
Overall, (RED)™ partners and events have generated $150 million U.S. and these funds have supported AIDS programs in Africa reaching more than 5 million people.
WHEN: Wednesday, December 1, 2010
WHERE: Participating Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada; every hand-crafted beverage sold on December 1 only.
