EU launches Export Helpdesk in Russian

The EU today launched its Export Helpdesk website in Russian. This is the sixth language in which the Export Helpdesk can be accessed. The new language facility is designed to help economic operators in Eastern countries’ to access EU markets.

The launch of the Export Helpdesk in Russian was announced at a business event designed to improve trade and trade-related cooperation between the EU and the six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

The Export Helpdesk is an online service by the Commission to provide information to economic operators outside the European Union so that they can supply the EU market. From labelling rules to import tariffs, the Export Helpdesk offers information free of charge and is now available in six languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Russian.

The new facility aims to help build closer trade ties with Eastern Partnership countries as well as with Russia. In 2009 the database received more than 85.000 hits from the six Eastern Partnership countries and 22.000 hits from Russia, in both cases double the 2008 volume. This demonstrates an increased use of our tool in these countries, which we hope to expand further.
