New book relates multiple memoirs about life during Depression

Sheehan Shenanigans by Joseph A. Sheehan strives to provide touching childhood tales from eight Sheehan siblings

ELK GROVE, Calif. (MMD Newswire) September 13, 2010 -- Sheehan Shenanigans: A Family Book with Compiled Stories of the Sheehan Clan by Joseph A. Sheehan offers a personal, diverse collection of tales told by eight of 13 Sheehan siblings, who grew up during and after the Great Depression and World War II. "The work differs from others of the genre because of the variety of viewpoints expressed, the skill of the storytellers and the format," says Sheehan, the eldest of 13. "It is the sort of book that you can pick up and peruse for five minutes, put down and pick up again any time."

The Sheehan Shenanigans anthology invites readers to experience the sometimes difficult life in Eureka, Calif. during the 1920s through such stories as those including nuns and morning prayers at Catholic school; rigging games for their own carnival; learning how to drive; and just understanding how to get along under the authority of a strict patriarch. Also included are accounts told by the Sheehans' mother during the same time period.

The wide variety of published memories is intended to evoke sadness, warmth and laughter. Sheehan Shenanigans, according to the author, was originally going to be shared exclusively with family members, but those outside the family encouraged the Sheehans to publish and distribute the compilation.

Sheehan Shenanigans: A Family Book with Compiled Stories of the Sheehan Clan is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
