Report from Taiji: September 17

Even though the sky was clear and the seas were calm, the dolphin hunters returned to the Taiji harbor without dolphin today.  This is the fourth day in a row that there has been no misery in the cove.

Today we spoke with the Japanese man from Tokyo we met yesterday.  He had good questions and we were able to have a rewarding dialogue.  We are entering a three-day holiday in Japan and many travelers are coming to this coast.  I do hope travelers will come to the cove and talk about this issue.

Dwight and Sandra Miller from Modesto, California (USA) joined us today.  They hastily made travel plans once they learned that Sea Shepherd was on the ground in Taiji and needed help.  They swam in the dolphin free cove this afternoon with my daughter.  Dwight and Sandra can only stay a week, but their presence is very much appreciated.  We introduced them to the police who seemed to be extremely surprised to learn that Dwight is a police officer himself.

If you would like to join us (voluntarily, and completely at your own cost and risk) in Taiji, write to me at inform-us@seashepherd.org.  I will get back to you, but please be patient.  I cannot keep an eye on the Cove and answer email at the same time.

For the Oceans,

Scott West
