Do Sports Video Games Encourage Children to Play Sports?
July 9, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ -- Is it a case of life imitating art or flipped logic? French business school ESSEC has released a study that states playing "active" sports video games can increase participation in real sports.
The study, touted by TIGA -- the UK games industry trade group, claims that among boys under the age of 21 who play virtual sports on "active video game consoles," the more the boys play these games, the more likely they are to play sports.
"There is a strong correlation between playing video games and participating in real sports. Watching television is a threat to physical activity. Video games are not, however," said Thierry Lardinoit, Head of the Marketing Department at ESSEC.
But is it really the video games encouraging boys to play sports or the love of the sports themselves that inspire them to extend their sport playing to a home console?
