Universal health care of Canada won’t fit for U.S. says Obama

Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) — Although many feel otherwise, President Barack Obama announced Monday that the universal health care module practiced by Canada simply will not work for the U.S.

During a news conference to end his North American summit with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Obama, always the diplomat, said, “We’ve got to develop a uniquely American approach to this problem.”

Those who have adamantly challenged the health care reform legislation in the House of Representatives and the Senate say the Canadian health-care module will pave the way for a single-payer system like the government-run program up north. Other opponents of the Canadian system say implementing such a system will cause restrictions on treatments and long delays.

Obama said that the current American health care system is based on employers offering health coverage for most Americans. Getting rid of that system would be too an extreme change.

“The Canadian model won’t work in the United States.” he said.

According to CNN.com, “However, he said he expects opponents of health-care legislation to continue to make what he called the misleading comparison between proposed U.S. legislation and Canada’s system.”
