Laura Bush promotes women’s health at Dallas lunch gathering

Addison, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — Former first lady Laura Bush will speak Monday at the Ritz-Carlton in Dallas regarding her plans to advocate women’s health issues after leaving the White House.

Mrs. Bush will also be the keynote speaker at a Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center luncheon which will honor her.

Joining Mrs. Bush during the gathering of minds are Ambassador Nancy Brinker, founding chair of Susan G. Komen for the Cure; Elizabeth Nabel, director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute; and Marjorie Jenkins, founding director of the university’s Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health.

The former first lady’s speaking engagement follows a piece on ABC’s “Good Morning America” in which Mrs. Bush touched on President Obama’s pick of Sonia Sotomayor, the newest federal appeals judge for the Supreme Court.

“I think she sounds like a winner and a good nominee,” Bush said.

Bush said in the show that “as a woman, I’m proud that there might be another woman on the court. I wish her well.”

Expanding on that topic, Bush said former president George W. Bush will make no comments on any Obama decisions. “He owes President Obama his silence on issues and there’s no reason to second-guess any decisions he makes,” Bush explained.
