May 1, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Callon Petroleum Co. (NYSE: CPE) (Current Market Cap: US$40.03 Mil.) has hired Steven B. Hinchman as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He recently retired from a 29 year career at Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE: MRO), where he last served as EVP and a member of Marathon’s executive committee.

Hinchman joined Marathon in 1980 as a field engineer and subsequently held a number of technical, staff and managerial positions in the company’s domestic and international exploration and production organizations. Prior to being named EVP he served as SVP of worldwide production and as SVP of production operations.

Callon said it anticipates reaching a final employment agreement with Hinchman prior to June 1.

Natchez, Mississippi-based Callon Petroleum is engaged in the acquisition, development, exploration and operation of oil and gas properties primarily in the Gulf Coast region.

Callon’s properties and operations are geographically concentrated in Louisiana and the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
